Thank you all for your thoughtful and specific feedback. We knew that things would not be perfect day 1 and your comments have been very helpful in identifying what areas needed the most attention the quickest. Even if you thought you were being redundant, we appreciate that you took the time to write because it helps to know which issues are the most "popular". Please keep it coming as we work through this transition.

I want to address some of the major concerns that were brought up so you have a sense of what to expect in the near and distant future. Below is a (too?) detailed summary of what we saw as the major concerns and what we are doing (or have already done) to address them.

Time Splits

There was a bug on the old site that forced us to split the event list up by sale time. We had no idea that this "accidental" feature was so important that it was almost unanimously the main problem with the site. We have already discussed options for recreating this functionality on the new site and hope to have one of the options implemented by the end of the week. This is our highest priority.

List Length

We think this problem will be fixed automatically by implementing the time split solution discussed above. As long as that solution does not prevent us from doing so, we will also expand the length of the list. We predict it will be possible to do both. If not, are there issues that will not be resolved by implementing the time split format?

Comment Placement

This is an issue we wrestled with a lot. The major complication is that it is a bit awkward in this system to pin comments to the event list because we now have an "eternal" list instead of a day-by-day list. Commenting and member-to-member communication is part of a much larger functionality set that we want to implement next. We may be able to come up with transitional functionality to bridge us to the larger feature set, but our initial assessment is that it might require too much to build at this point. We will investigate it further but might need to ask that you try to get used to the comment on the side as a temporary solution. I will be back in touch with you regarding this.

Sorting By State

Sorting by state would create some clunkiness that we are not sure you would like in the end and are pretty sure that we won't like. It should be possible to implement a search -by-state by the end of the week though, barring unforeseen complications. I will make an announcement when this is ready. In the meantime, please note that you can do a search by city by using the search box in the header. On the old site, it was not possible to sort or search easily by any geographic region. The ability to do so now is foundational step toward expanded functionality that will be much more powerful than simply searching. This is in the long-term plan.

"Rolling" Advanced Listings

In response to the question about whether events will be updated on a rolling basis, the answer is yes. We will be a bit behind this week as we finish up work on the new site and try to get caught up on the list, but in the future, you can expect "rolling" updates.

The Site is Too Pretty

This was unofficially voted our favorite comment. I don't know how to respond to the "pretty" factor, but in terms of the concern about advertising, I have two things to address. First, ads do take up a large portion of the right navigation. To be honest, we just had to throw them in as place holders for functionality that we know we will be adding soon, but that isn't ready yet. That said, second(ly), internet companies have a choice: run ads or charge members. We choose the former. Our philosophy regarding advertising is that it should be useful, relevant to users and non-disruptive. That is the main reason why removed the "forced" redirect to Ticketmaster. We know that doing so will decrease revenue, but in the end, we wanted to give you more control over your browser. As we start to look at how we implement advertising we will focus on how to do it in a useful, relevant and non-disruptive fashion.

The List is Too Squished

We can't fix this right away, but will look at design options that will "unsquish" it in our next major development round. In the meantime, try the CTRL + Plus-Sign function in your browser to increase the size. (CTRL + Minus-Sign will make it smaller and CTRL + 0 will return it to the default size.)

Previous Presales are Too Hard to See

This might be because of a lack of data. Once we get a week or two in and actually have a good data set to look at, we will look at this again. Please let us know if there are still issues after the next week or so.

Slow Load Times

Work is still being done on the site and if you use it while updates are being made, there may be a slow load time. In general, our experience is that, under normal conditions, load time is a bit faster on this site and we will continue to monitor this. Please let us know if this issue persists.

Other Issues

One issue no one has caught yet, but that you will soon is that when you are looking at page 2, if you refresh to see if a presale has been updated, you are kicked back to page 1. This is annoying. We know. This too, is on the list.

I hope this addresses most of the issues that have been brought up so far. Please keep the dialog open as we transition. Your feedback is very important. For those that plan on leaving, we hope you will give us some time to work out the kinks, but wish you well either way.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Admin
