The Dead Tour Dates Announced for Spring '09

Tour dates for The Dead have been announced for a short Spring Tour in 2009. The dates appear below.

Dead Tour ticket information is still sparse at this point, but it appears there will be a ticket presale for all Spring Tour concerts on Tuesday January 13 and a public sale for all shows on the 23rd of January. No word on mail order, but we are guessing these presales will be through Music Today. More details will probably be released next week and we will post an update if they are.

The four remaining core members of the Grateful Dead - Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann - will play on the tour, marking the first time since 2004 they have toured with that lineup. They will be joined by jam band tour circuit utility man Warren Haynes and Jeff Chimenti, the keyboardist for Bob Weir's other band, Ratdog.

Live Nation Turns Back the Technology Clock

Do you remember the days before tickets were sold on the internet when the people that were willing to wait in line the longest were the ones that got the good seats? A Live Nation deal with Blockbuster may bring us back in time where a fan's dedication (and willingness to take a day off of work) is the main factor in seat quality.

According to Cincinnati.com, the Live Nation deal with Blockbuster would make the embattled video rental store the brick and mortar location for buying tickets for three years. In an unattributed quote, the web site said buyers chances of getting good seats would be better if they attempt to purchase them at Blockbuster.

Experienced ticket buyers know not to pass judgment on this news until the ticket quality at Blockbuster can properly be assessed, but if Live Nation does give preferred allotments to Blockbuster, it would mean a wider distribution of the good seats, which would likely lead to more fan-friendly access to tickets.

Blockbuster will be offering tickets in over 500 stores as a result of this deal and the plan is to get the stores up and running by the end of January. This partnership was made possible because of Live Nation's decision to "break up" with Ticketmaster and run their own ticketing operation. That partnership officially ends at midnight on January 7.

Guns-n-Roses Guitarist Sparks New Tour Rumors

Guns N' Roses guitarist Richard Fortus has provided even more hope for fans who expect a Guns-n-Roses tour to follow the release of Chiense Democracy.

In an interview with an American newspaper, Fortus apparently claimed that the volatile band will tour behind the new album for "at least two years". Fortus has been in the Guns-n-Roses road show since 2002.

Fortus joked that "there has been talk of us doing a Love tour, a tour of all the cities where there have been riots, and doing free shows. That might happen." Though Fortus' tone was jocular, this is not the first time industry sources have been quoted saying that the band was planning to go on the road, so it seems likely.

According to Fortus, the tour may start in March. If that is the case, they better think about putting tickets on sale soon.

2009 Dave Matthews Band Spring Tour Dates

The Dave Matthews Band has announced 2009 Spring concert tour dates as they attempt to move on following the sudden and tragic death of founding member LeRoi Moore in August.

The band will release its first studio album since 2005 on April 14, the same day the tour kicks off at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Public sale tickets will be available January 16-17 for most cities and the Warehouse, the official DMB fan club, will have its standard presale offerings for fan club members. In the past, the Warehouse has always had a presale ticket request period after which it distributes tickets on a random basis to members requesting in each city.

The 2009 Spring Tour is slated to hit over a dozen cities, with none further west than Las Vegas. Though most of the concerts this time around will be on the east coast, the Vegas stop includes two nights at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. DMB will hit up the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and will do two night stands in Charlottesville, VA and Atlanta.

There have always been free presale passwords for Dave Matthews Band tours in addition to the fan club presales so keep an eye on the list below. For more details as we get closer to the public sale dates.

The line up, in addition to Matthews, will be longtime members Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard and Boyd Tinsley. In addition, you will also see Tim Reynolds on guitar, Rashawn Ross on trumpet and Jeff Coffin on saxophone. Here is a sneak peak at the tour dates that have been announced so far.

Site Update Notification

December was a much busier month in terms of events than we were expecting. This is great news for the industry and might indicate that the big promoters plan on fighting these tough economic conditions by increasing the number of tours rather than prices. This would also be great news.

Locally, we have some great news too. Our first round of post-relaunch updates have been deployed. We haven't gotten to everything yet, but we tried to hit the areas you spoke out about the most. Here is a summary of the updates.

Friend Connect

We have implemented Friend Connect by Google. This revolutionary service offereing will allow you to create an online identity that you fully control and can "carry" with you to PresaleToday (as well as any of the 1,000s of other sites that will implement it). Now, just by signing in with a Google account, (you can make one a non-Google e-mail address to if you wish) you can network and share information with other PresaleToday users either publicly or privately.

The Wall

The Wall is an extension of the Google Friend Connect product. It allows members to post messages and reply to others' message in a bulletin-board style fashion. The Wall will appear at the bottom of the presale and ticket sale list so you no longer have to click through to the official comment thread.

Together, Friend Connect and the Wall comprise a temporary solution to your request to "switch back" to the old comment style while giving you a chance to network and have both public and private conversations with other PresaleToday users. Just click on someone's profile and you can invite them to be a friend. As a rule, I will not harass any members personally with friend requests, but please feel free to add me.

Split Times

As you may have noticed, there is also now a "Filter your Results" link at the top of the presale and ticket sale list. Click it and you will see the links you requested that will allow you to view all sales going on at a particular time. It looks like just a handful of links but in a short couple of weeks, our development team went from "you can't do that with our system" to implementing this solution, so hats off to them.

There are a few other changes, some minor, some major, that you may notice as you move through the site. We will highlight at least one of them next week so stay tuned. If you have comments, the bottom of the daily list is the place to put them.

Billy Joel and Elton John Concert Dates Confirmed

Some pretty solid rumors about an Elton John and Billy Joel co-headlining tour began to emerge several months ago and now you can call it official. Three dates - for Jacksonville, Cincinnati and Atlanta have already been confirmed on Ticketmaster and more are likely to be announced soon.

And fans won't have to wait long to see the two piano men. The concerts announced already will happen in March and tickets will go on sale to the general public 12/6. ~~So far, no presales have been announced and although we have our fingers crossed, they may not happen.~~ (Watch the list below for details). A presale has been announced for Wednesday for the Tampa show.

The duo played 24 dates on their most recent tour together in 2003. That version of the Face 2 Face Tour (the 2009 tour will share that name) enjoyed high demand, selling out every night.

According to promoters, the two will perform together to start each show, trade sets with their own bands, then play jamboree style with both pianists and both backing bands on stage at once to wind things up.

Britney Spears Presale Tickets On Sale This Week

The 2009 Britney Spears Circus Tour just became a bit more official.

Though the events keep appearing and disappearing from Ticketmaster with various statuses regarding whether or not they are on sale, it appears as though tickets will go on sale this week. It is also rumored that there will be a password and it will be generic. Please note, the only presale listed on Ticketmaster at the time of this posting was the Jobing.com concert and the presale start time was listed as 8:00 am MST. If this holds through the night, it'll mean you have to wake up a bit earlier than usual to buy tickets.

Dates and ticket price rumors have been discussed in the official comment thread from today.

The list below is a real time summary of ticket sale information and Britney Spears presale passwords for the Circus tour. Check back often for updates as they happen.

Nickelback Rides Dark Horse Around North America

Nickelback has assembled a list of 2009 North American tour dates to support their new album, "Dark Horse." The tour kicks off February 25 in Nashville and presales start this week (see dates below).

The general public will have access to tickets on Saturday, but there will generally be two presale options - through fan club presales (They are charging $24.99) and Citi presales. A Citi-sponsored television commercial has already begun airing to promote the tour. In addition Citi is offering the chance to do a 3-city tour with band. We are starting to see how Live Nation plans to leverage its relationships to turn luke-warm events into hot ones.

The tour is comprised of 30 dates and will hit primarily east coast and Canadian venues. This is Nickelback's first tour after signing a 360 deal with Live Nation, so more dates will likely be added later. The current list of arena dates runs through April.

"Dark Horse" in Nickelback's sixth studio album. It debuted at number 2 on The Billboard 200 chart this week. "Gotta Be Somebody," the lead single off the album, is streaming at Nickelback's MySpace page.

The new stuff either incorporates suggestions from users, lays a foundation for building other stuff you have suggested or is stuff you didn't request but we thought you'd want anyway.

This includes (but is not limited to):

Ability to sort the event list.
Better artist-based search.
JavaScript password pop ups have been replaced by an AJAXy display of password information.
The automatic redirect to the ticket sales page has been replaced by an optional redirect. (You can click through or just close the password box to return to the event list).
More precise links to Ticketmaster for some (but not all) sales.
Ability to view future on-sales beyond just today's and tomorrow's events.
View presales from the home page or click through to the list.
Room for more content that you will see added over time.

In addition, we have made many upgrades to our infrastructure that will make the site more stable and allow us to build some really cool features for you in the near future.

Some Issues You will Find

Please remember that the site will still be in BETA for a bit longer. You cannot, for example, log-in or register (don't worry you are not missing anything yet). You also cannot comment directly on the event list yet. Instead, we have set up a comment thread here that appears in the right nav on every page of the site.

Also, it will take us a day or two after launch to get the daily e-mail and the Ticket Toolbar reset and functioning properly.

There is also a chance that there may be some missing events or some that appear in multiple places while we work out data issues. The timing of the release is *relatively* convenient since there will be very little going on sale Thanksgiving week anyway.

Once the site is live we will address these issues to try to avoid any interruptions. If you are experiencing any issues with any part of the site after the release, please let us know so we can address them. We have set up a bug tracker and suggestion thread here. Please use it licentiously.

Once again, we've come a long way since the days of posting a couple of hot events each day on the Blogger blog. It would not have been possible without the help of a number of people that shared in the vision of making it easier for people to access tickets for live events. Thanks are in order to the various staff and contractors we have had over the years and especially to our current design and development team, which was firmly dedicated to the needs of our users from the outset of this project.
